I am filing a complaint regarding a sudden and unaffordable increase in my federal student loan payment. I was enrolled in the SAVE repayment plan and received official documentation showing my monthly payment was approximately {$120.00}. I relied on this documented payment amount when applying for and obtaining a mortgage. My lender used this figure in evaluating my debt-to-income ratio and approving my home loan. Based on this verified payment amount, I made a major financial commitment and purchased a home. I have now been made aware of changes with the repayment plans and that my monthly student loan payment has increased to approximately {$500.00} a month or More per the loan repayment estimator on FDOE website. This increase is sudden, unaffordable, and creates immediate financial hardship. I would not have taken on my mortgage obligation had I known my true monthly student loan payment would be this high.…
I am submitting a formal complaint regarding conflicting and potentially inaccurate reporting of my federal student loan account. Currently, I submitted a complaint which shows my credit report reflects my student loan under XXXX. However, I have received correspondence from Nelnet indicating that I owe a balance on what appears to be the same student loan. This discrepancy raises serious concerns regarding the accuracy of my credit file and the proper servicing of my loan. At this time, it is unclear which entity is the legitimate servicer of my loan, and whether duplicate or erroneous reporting is occurring. Under the Fair Credit Reporting Act ( FCRA ), I have the right to accurate and complete information on my credit report. Reporting the same or unclear debt across multiple servicers is misleading and may be negatively impacting my credit profile. Sincerely, XXXX XXXX
Because the federal government has already determined that this institution engaged in misconduct sufficient to justify full loan discharge, equity and consumer protection principles support extending comparable relief to private loans arising from the same facts. I received full federal loan discharge under the XXXX v. XXXX settlement due to school misconduct. I still carry private loans for the same school and program. Given the confirmed misconduct, I request review and relief, including potential discharge or restitution, as these loans were incurred under the same circumstances. Servicer : XXXX XXXX
I am submitting this complaint regarding the handling of my federal student loan account by Nelnet and the Department of Education. I requested a full review of my account, including proper application of the XXXX XXXX ( XXXX ) account adjustment and an accurate count of qualifying months toward forgiveness. Nelnets response dated XX/XX/XXXX confirms several critical failures : XXXX. Nelnet explicitly states that it does not have access to my full payment count due to current system limitations. Despite this, it asserts that my account has already received the XXXX account adjustment. This conclusion is unsupported, as no month-by-month accounting of qualifying or excluded periods was provided. XXXX. Nelnet directed me to contact prior servicers for pre-consolidation payment history. This is improper. My loan history is maintained within the XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX ( XXXX ), and both Nelnet and the Department of Education have access to this data.…
I attended XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX ( formerly XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX ) from XX/XX/XXXX to XX/XX/XXXX, then dropped out for XXXX weeks. I rejoined the school on XX/XX/XXXX as a full-time student and graduated on XX/XX/XXXX. I used Nelnet as my student loan provider to attend this school. Typically, the Nelnet grace period for student loans is XXXX months post-graduation or when classes taken drop below half-time, and then completely resets when rejoining school if the break or time attended is less than XXXX months. I rejoined the school as a full-time student on XX/XX/XXXX, which means my grace period should have reset completely. Only XXXX months after my graduation date, my repayments began on XX/XX/XXXX, which was earlier than they should have been. Due to repayments starting earlier than they should have, my credit was reported XXXX days late several months later, as I received no communication that my repayments should have started.…
My federal student loans were previously serviced by Great Lakes XXXX XXXX XXXX, where I was enrolled in automatic payments ( autopay ) and my account was current and in good standing. During XXXX, Great Lakes transferred its entire loan portfolio to Nelnet as part of a Department of EducationXXXX consolidation of federal loan servicers. When my loans transferred to Nelnet, my autopay enrollment was not migrated. I was not adequately notified that my automatic payments had been discontinued. This transfer also coincided with the federal XXXX student loan payment pause, which ended on XX/XX/XXXX. When payments resumed after the pause, I believed my autopay was still active. Because it was not, my account became delinquent. This delinquency was not caused by any refusal or inability to pay ; it was caused entirely by XXXX XXXX failure to carry over my autopay arrangement during the servicer transition.…
Since approximately XXXX, following my graduation, I have experienced a consistent pattern of servicing behavior across my federal student loans, initially with Great Lakes Educational Loan Services and later with Nelnet after my loans were transferred. Each time I contacted my loan servicer because I could not afford my required monthly payment, I was directed to request a forbearance. This occurred repeatedly over a period of many years. At no point was I clearly or meaningfully informed of income-driven repayment ( IDR ) options that could have provided a more sustainable long-term solution or allowed me to make progress toward loan forgiveness. Additionally, I was informed by my loan servicer that interest would not accrue during forbearance periods. Relying on this information, I entered into multiple forbearance periods over time. This information was incorrect for my loans.…
I am writing to escalate a serious issue regarding my federal student loans that were approved for discharge under the XXXX XXXX XXXX ( formerly XXXX v. XXXX ) settlement. My XXXX XXXX application was approved, and I received official notice from the U.S. Department of Education confirming that : My loans are to be fully discharged Refunds are to be issued where applicable All associated credit tradelines must be deleted As of today, these actions have not been completed. My loans are still being reported on my credit file, and the discharge process appears stalled. This failure to act is unacceptable and may constitute : Non-compliance with a federal court-approved settlement Inaccurate credit reporting under the Fair Credit Reporting Act ( FCRA )
I am filing a complaint regarding Nelnets failure to provide accurate information and access to my student loan account. Approximately XXXX years ago, I contacted Nelnet after being informed that my loans may qualify for federal relief. Nelnet informed me they could not locate my account using my name or Social Security number. I was instructed to contact Federal Student Aid, who then redirected me back to Nelnet. This cycle occurred multiple times without resolution. Nelnet failed to : Locate or properly identify my account Provide guidance on how to proceed Follow up as promised As a result, I was unable to submit a borrower defense application prior to the XX/XX/year> deadline. I relied on their guidance in good faith. I am requesting investigation and corrective action, including consideration for relief that I was prevented from accessing due to servicer misinformation and lack of support.
I am filing a complaint regarding inaccurate credit reporting by Nelnet. In XX/XX/2025, I experienced a one-time missed payment due to a bank transition that interrupted my autopay setup. This was not an ongoing delinquency. However, Nelnet has reported multiple late payments across several loan groups, despite the fact that I make a single monthly payment that is allocated across these groups. This has resulted in multiple delinquency entries for what was a single missed payment event. Additionally, the reported delinquency date is inconsistent across credit reporting agencies, indicating that the information being furnished may not be accurate or properly verified. This reporting is misleading and does not accurately reflect my payment history. It has negatively impacted my credit due to what appears to be duplicated or improperly reported late payments.…
Student loan Private student loan Firstmark Services In XXXX, I refinanced and consolidated my student loans into a private loan serviced by Firstmark Services. At the time, I was working in the public service sector and would have qualified for the Public Service Loan Forgiveness ( PSLF ) program had my loans remained federal. During the refinancing process, I was not informedclearly or at allthat by converting my federal student loans into a private loan, I would permanently lose access to federal protections and programs, including income-driven repayment options and Public Service Loan Forgiveness . This was a material omission that significantly impacted my financial future. The refinancing was presented as a responsible financial decision, primarily emphasizing simplified payments and cost savings. However, there was no meaningful explanation of the long-term consequences, specifically the irreversible loss of federal borrower protections and forgiveness eligibility.…
I am filing a XXXX complaint regarding a previously unresolved issue involving the fraudulent diversion of my federal student aid refund in the amount of {$2100.00}. My prior complaint ( XXXX ) was closed after Nelnet provided a response that did not address the substance of the issue. This matter involved confirmed fraud : XXXX XXXX University ( XXXX ) confirmed that my account was compromised. -My refund disbursement bank account was changed without authorization. -A refund of {$2100.00} was sent to a fraudulent bank account. Nelnet responded to my previous complaint stating they could not identify me as a borrower. this response is not relevant to the issue. I do not have a loan serviced by Nelnet. My federal student loans are serviced by XXXX. However, Nelnet acted as the payment/refund processor for XXXX and handled the disbursement of these funds. This complaint is not about loan servicing.…
This is a follow up of the XXXX ID XXXX The financial organization replied to my complaint saying they have identified the issue and addressed it. ( The response is attached! ) However, when I reviewed the payment history, it does not reflect what they said they would do. If this is any indication - this is the third complaint about this load manager. And, I am really surprised how inadequate their capabilities seem. I am attaching how my two loan accounts are showing the payment histories. In particular, there are no records of two payments of {$270.00} each on or after XX/XX/year>. My payment confirmations, the payment history screenshots and organization response to the previous complaint are attached.

I formally disputed the default status of my federal student loan. I was not properly notified of delinquency, default, acceleration, and/or transfer of this loan. I especially disputed the accuracy of information provided to me regarding my loan balance. I was informed that my balance was XXXX, which materially affected my understanding of the loans status and my ability to take timely action. I saw the XXXX balance ( no payment due ) in XX/XX/year>. The deferment date, according to XXXX and a letter from the guarantor ( ECMC ), is XX/XX/year>. For XXXX months before the deferment date, the servicer ( XXXX ) presented the loan as having no balance and no payment due. At this point, it was not an assumption that the loan was forgiven ; the servicer actually told me there was no loan. During the period in question, I was unable to make payments because I was informed that my loan balance was XXXX.…

In XXXX, XXXX, I switched my monthly student Loan Payments to Sloan Servicing from Nelnet to auto-payment. After I switched my payment to auto, Sloan Servicing changed the allocation of the monthly payment even though the monthly amount remained the same. It switched the allocation so that each month, interest would accrue and roll over to the next month. When I went in to check on the loan in XXXX, XXXX, I noticed that {$630.00} of interest had accrued for my loan. I inquired how it was possible that interest had accrued since I paid the monthly amount and the monthly amount was sufficient to cover any interest that had occurred for that month. Sloan Servicing had no explanation for why it allowed so much interest to occur. I have attached the payment activity which shows that the allocation for interest was reduced after I switched my payment from XXXX to XXXX. This lead to the accrual of interest each month.

I am submitting a complaint regarding the reporting of late payments on my student loan account serviced by Nelnet. Following the end of the XXXX student loan forbearance and the transition back into repayment, I made several financial changes, including paying off multiple accounts and reorganizing my payment structure. During this time, I believed automatic payments had been properly established on my Nelnet account. Due to this misunderstanding during the repayment restart period, payments were not made as expected. Because of my financial stability and the relatively small payment amount, I did not immediately notice the issue. This resulted in a series of missed payments that escalated before I became aware of the problem. Importantly, this situation occurred during a widely documented national transition period affecting millions of borrowers.…
Sometime around late XXXX early XXXX someone else opened a loan to the XXXX XXXX XXXXXXXX under my name without my knowledge. I noticed when they appeared on my credit report in XXXXXXXX XXXX XXXXXXXX. I spent the rest of that year disputing this loan and collecting evidence for identity theft which was later APPROVED by the Department of Education. As it stands the fraudulent loans have been removed from my credit file and I was told I would not be financially responsible due to it being Identity fraud. I contacted Nelnet which was the loan servicer when they tried to collect debt from me in late XXXX, they said in their system I was approved for identity theft but something else in their system said it was denied which was not correct. I was told this would be fixed. It is now XXXXXXXX XXXX XXXXXXXX and the XXXX XXXX XXXXXXXX is now trying to collect a debt from me that is not my debt that I was told I was exalted from.…
I am filing a complaint regarding inaccurate credit reporting by Nelnet on my student loan account ( Account XXXX ). In XX/XX/year>, I proactively took steps to avoid delinquency by requesting deferment and forbearance. These were approved and applied to my account as follows : - Deferment ( XXXX XXXX ) : XX/XX/year> - XX/XX/year> - Forbearance ( XXXX XXXX and XXXX ) : XX/XX/year> Despite these approved statuses, Nelnet reported a late payment to the credit bureaus, causing significant damage to my credit profile, including a drop of over XXXX points in my XXXX score. I previously disputed this directly with Nelnet and provided supporting documentation. However, Nelnet responded by stating that the forbearance was applied after the delinquency occurred and refused to correct the reporting. This response is insufficient and does not address the core issue.…
I attended XXXX XXXX, which has since closed. I was pursuing a path toward XXXX but was placed into a health sciences track that was not clearly explained and did not allow my credits to transfer into a XXXX XXXX as expected. I submitted a XXXX XXXX application over one year ago due to this misrepresentation. Despite the length of time, I have not received a resolution or meaningful update. I recently filed a complaint with XXXX XXXX XXXX ( XXXX # XXXX ), but my application remains pending. This delay is causing ongoing financial hardship and uncertainty due to unresolved student loan debt tied to a closed school.
Received a statement in XX/XX/year> stating that I owed XXXX on my federal student loans, the due date for that payment was XX/XX/year>. On XX/XX/year>, before being 90 days late, I made a payment of XXXX which was the amount due stated on the statement. I later got notice on my credit reports stating that I was 90 days late with my payment because I did not pay my " regular monthly payment '' of XXXX. However, the statement was given said I owed XXXX and that was what I paid. I don't understand how I am supposed to pay a different amount if the statement is not specifying that amount. I would like all of the 90 day late reports removed from my credit report since this has negatively affected my credit due to their error.
" I am requesting an investigation and correction of inaccurate 2025 late payment notations on my federal student loans serviced by Nelnet ( Account XXXX ). The loans transferred from Great Lakes during a period of confusion, and I did not receive clear payment instructions. In XX/XX/year> I received paid in full letters from Nelnet and attempted to pay off the full balance in good faith. During that attempt I discovered additional federal loans fraudulently taken out in my name, so I immediately called my bank to stop the payment. This confusion contributed to the 2025 delinquency ( 90180 days ). I have since maintained forbearance and filed XXXX XXXX claim # XXXX. These negative marks are currently preventing me from qualifying for a conventional mortgage. Nelnet denied my goodwill request.
I am formally disputing a 90-day delinquency reported by Nelnet for XX/XX/year> ( Acct XXXX ). Nelnet denied my internal dispute on XX/XX/year>, but their reporting is a direct violation of mandatory due diligence under 34 CFR 682.411. 1. Breach of Telephone Contact Requirement ( 682.411 ( d ) ( 1 ) ) : Federal law requires that between 16 and 180 days of delinquency, a servicer MUST engage in at least four diligent efforts to contact the borrower by telephone. Nelnet failed this requirement. I have maintained a 10-year perfect payment history; had Nelnet attempted a single phone call to my verified number on file, this oversight would have been resolved instantly. Electronic " portal notices '' do not satisfy this statutory telephone requirement. 2. Reporting Ambush ( Procedural Error ) : Nelnet bypassed the 30-day and 60-day reporting intervals, jumping directly to a 90-day derogatory mark.…
I am filing this complaint against Nelnet for a systemic failure to report my account history to the national credit reporting agencies ( CRAs ). Despite being my loan servicer for over a year, Nelnet failed to furnish any record of this account, its status, or its eventual closure. In XXXX, I enrolled in the Department of Educations XXXX XXXX program. My loans were subsequently assigned to Nelnet. For approximately XXXX months, I maintained this account, during which time I either made on-time payments or was in a period of authorized deferral. On XX/XX/XXXX, these loans were consolidated and paid in full. There is currently no record associated with Nelnet on my credit reports. This is not a case of a few missing months ; the entire tradeline is absent. Specifically : There is no record of the 14-month period between my enrollment in XXXX XXXX and my consolidation. There is no record that these loans were ever paid in full or closed.…
My credit reports show my federal student loan as 90 days past due as of XX/XX/XXXX and show a past-due amount of {$390.00} for XX/XX/XXXX. Nelnet provided me a written deferment approval letter stating my deferment request was approved and applied with an effective start date of XX/XX/XXXX, an end date of XX/XX/XXXX, and next payment due XX/XX/XXXX. XX/XX/XXXX falls inside that stated deferment period, yet Nelnet continues to furnish credit reporting showing a XXXX delinquency and a past-due balance for that month. XXXX/ documentation XX/XX/XXXX : Nelnet issued a deferment approval letter stating the deferment was approved/applied with effective dates XXXX and next payment due XX/XX/XXXX. The letter also states that if the account was past due when processed, Nelnet XXXX have used an administrative forbearance to bring the account up to date before processing the deferment. I am filing a complaint against Nelnet for inaccurate tracking of my student loan payments. I have been in repayment since XXXX yet only approximately XXXX years are credited toward forgiveness. XXXX XXXX XXXX records indicate loan payment count but it is not accurate. This discrepancy has caused financial harm by extending my repayment timeline and increasing interest accrual. I am requesting a full audit, correction of my payment count, and written confirmation of the correction.
This is the second complaint about this issue I have been facing. I am getting worried about the organization and it's capabilities in maintaining the records straight.
