On XX/XX/year>, I was approved for an installment loan with Oportun. The loan was approved on XX/XX/XXXX, and according to Oportun, the funds were disbursed on XX/XX/year>. Part of the loan was used to pay off the remaining balance of a previous loan, and I was supposed to receive an additional {$750.00} in new funds. I never received the {$750.00} in my XXXX XXXX XXXX account. I contacted my bank directly and confirmed that there is no record of any incoming deposit or XXXX transfer from Oportun on or around XX/XX/year>. The bank also confirmed that there were no rejected or returned transactions. Oportun has stated in response to my first complaint that their internal department shows the disbursement was completed on XX/XX/XXXX and that there is no evidence of a returned or failed transaction. They advised me to verify directly with my bank. However, my bank confirms that no deposit was ever received and no transaction attempt appears in their system.…

I took out a personal loan of {$3000.00} with this company. Within only 23 days, I decided to cancel or pay off the loan. However, I was informed that I would have to pay approximately {$350.00} in fees. These charges were not clearly explained to me at the time I took the loan. I contacted the company to request clarification, but I did not receive a clear or fair explanation. I believe these fees are excessive and unfair, especially considering how quickly I attempted to cancel the loan. I am requesting that these fees be removed or significantly reduced.
To Whom It Concerns, Im contacting you because an account with my information suddenly appeared in your system and is now being reported to the credit bureaus. Before I make any decisions or take any responsibility for something I dont fully understand, I need clarity and documentation. I am disputing this account and requesting validation under the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act. This is not a refusal to pay. I simply need proof that the information youre reporting is accurate, that I am the correct person, and that your company has the legal right to collect or furnish the account. Right now, what you have provided is not enough for me to confirm anything. To properly review and verify this matter, I am asking for the following : 1. A breakdown of what this alleged balance is based on, including dates and itemized charges. 2. Documents showing where this obligation originated and how your company obtained it. 3.…
A collection account is currently listed on my credit report without proper verification. I exercised my rights under the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act ( FDCPA ) by requesting validation of the alleged debt ; however, the creditor or collection agency has not provided any credible documentation proving that the debt is mine, that the balance is accurate, or that they are legally authorized to collect it. Despite the absence of proper validation, this account continues to be reported on my credit file. This constitutes a violation of the Fair Credit Reporting Act ( FCRA ), which mandates that all reported information must be accurate and verifiable. Reporting a debt that has not been validated is both misleading and incorrect.
I made a payment to Oportun that was successfully debited from my bank account. My bank XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXXXXXX XXXX confirmed that the payment was processed and not returned. However, Oportun is claiming that the payment was returned, which is incorrect. At this time, the money is not in my bank account and has not been applied to my loan. This means the funds are missing. I have contacted both the bank and Oportun multiple times, but neither has provided a clear explanation or solution. I am requesting a full investigation and proof of where the funds were sent.
For the past week, representatives from Oportun have been calling me as early as XXXX XXXX and continuing to call multiple times throughout the day. These calls are excessive and disruptive. Receiving repeated calls starting early in the morning has caused unnecessary stress and inconvenience. While I understand that companies may attempt to contact consumers regarding accounts, the frequency and timing of these calls is unreasonable and feels harassing. Contacting me repeatedly in a single day, particularly beginning at such an early hour, interferes with my daily routine and personal time.
I disputed inaccurate information on my credit report regarding an Oportun account that was later assigned or sold to XXXX XXXX. I submitted a dispute to XXXX and requested the method of verification ( MOV ). Despite my dispute, the account was verified without providing sufficient documentation or explanation of how the information was confirmed as accurate. The account is being reported inaccurately because : The balance and status information is inconsistent The original creditor and collection reporting appear duplicative and/or improperly updated The investigation did not correct the disputed errors Under the Fair Credit Reporting Act ( FCRA ), a reasonable investigation is required when a consumer disputes information. Simply verifying the account without correcting inaccuracies or providing proper documentation does not satisfy that requirement.…
I had a savings account with Oportun, but I closed the external checking account linked to it. As a result, Oportun closed my savings account and informed me that they would mail me a check for {$2300.00}. They issued me ticket # XXXX regarding this matter. The last communication I received from them was on XX/XX/year>. Since then, I have called numerous times and sent many emails, but I have not received any response. I frequently attempt to contact them by phone, but I'm always told that someone from the relevant department will call me back, which never happens, or I am instructed to email them. Unfortunately, my emails also go unanswered.
I received a letter in the mail by XXXX it is written in spanish, claiming that they are a collection company trying to collect a debt by an creditor named OPORTUN INC for the amount of XXXX dollars. The letter is asking for immediate payment or will be subjected to lawsuit by credit collecting agency.
I am trying to close my account with Oportum. I provided my name, email and phone number to my current account. They refuse to close it until I send my primary banking account statements which I use to transfer funds into this account, my license and a utilities bill statement. I told them this information seems excessive for a closure request and they are refusing to close my account with out it. The company did not require any of this information to open the account so it seems unnecessary for them to have it just to cancel my account.
I am writing to formally dispute a fraudulent account and debt currently being pursued by XXXX XXXX XXXX on behalf of Oportun XXXX Under account number XXXX for the amount of {$6200.00} On XX/XX/XXXX, I received a collection text message from XXXX XXXX XXXX regarding a loan that I did not authorize. Upon investigation, I discovered this unauthorized account was opened in my name at Oportun with an original loan date of XX/XX/XXXX. I am reporting that this account is the result of identity theft. I have no association with this transaction, and I did not receive any funds from this loan. Furthermore, I have official documentation ( travel records ) proving that I was not in the country on XX/XX/XXXX, the date the loan was initiated, making it impossible for me to have signed for this account in person.
I had an account with Oportun / XXXX that was officially closed on XX/XX/2023. Despite the account being closed, another company has been contacting me attempting to collect on a debt that I do not owe. I have not opened any new account and the original lender is no longer active on this account. I did not authorize my information to be shared or transferred for collection purposes after the account was closed. I am being contacted regarding a balance that is not owed. I am requesting that : All collection attempts stop immediately Any company attempting to collect on this closed account cease contacting me Any information related to this account not be transferred or used for collection Written confirmation be provided that no balance is owed This account was closed on XX/XX/2023.
I was previously behind on my payments due to financial hardship but I remained under 120 days past due. To resolve this, I entered a hardship assistance program provided by Oportun. According to their official app, my account is now Current with a payment scheduled for XX/XX/XXXX. Despite this agreement, Oportun transferred my account to a law firm ( XXXX XXXX ) and now refuses to communicate with me. Every time I call they try to force and intimidate me into dealing only with the collection agency, which I find threatening and predatory. They are using legal-firm intimidation for a debt that is NOT in default under my current assistance plan. I am trying to pay as agreed, but they are blocking my access to their own customer service to force a settlement through a third party. Additionally. when Oportun calls for collection attempts their representatives refuse to identify themselves first.…
I am filing a complaint against XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX regarding an alleged debt they claim to own originating with Oportun , Inc. I timely sent a written debt validation request via certified mail to the address listed by XXXX XXXX. USPS tracking confirms the correspondence was returned to me as undeliverable due to an expired or invalid forwarding address. As a result, XXXX XXXX failed to receive or respond to my request and failed to provide any validation of the alleged debt. Despite failing to maintain a valid address for consumer disputes, XXXX XXXX has continued collection activity and communications. This prevents me from exercising my rights under the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act ( 15 U.S.C. 1692g ). Additionally, XXXX XXXX has previously responded to a CFPB complaint stating that they terminated collection efforts and would request deletion of their tradeline if reported.…
I am a XXXX father supporting XXXX children and my mother on a XXXX income. The funds from this loan were used entirely for my mothers XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX ) abroad. I approached the lender for relief because I was struggling with these medical costs. Instead of offering a sustainable solution, they placed me in a program that silently ballooned my debt. I feel these practices specifically target vulnerable consumers in crisis who do not have the financial literacy to understand complex negative amortization schemes. I have a personal loan with this company ( approx. {$11000.00} original balance ) secured by my vehicle. Due to the financial difficulties mentioned above, the lender offered me a " hardship program '' in XXXX, XXXX, and XXXX, allowing me to pay XXXX % of the monthly installment for XXXX months each year. I was led to believe this program would help me stay on track.…
Company : XXXX ( or assigned collection agency ) Issue : Debt collection / Credit reporting Product : Other consumer loan or line of credit I am submitting this complaint regarding an alleged {$1000.00} line of credit associated with XXXX XXXX. I dispute the validity of this debt and do not acknowledge liability for the alleged obligation. To date, I have not received proper debt validation as required under the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act, 15 U.S.C. 1692g. Despite the lack of validation, the company has attempted to collect and may be furnishing information to consumer reporting agencies. Reporting or attempting to collect an unvalidated debt constitutes a false, deceptive, and misleading representation under 15 U.S.C. 1692e and violates the Fair Credit Reporting Act, 15 U.S.C. 1681. I am requesting that the CFPB require the company to either provide full documentary debt validation or immediately cease all collection and credit reporting activity related to this account.…
I am writing to formally request validation of a collection account referenced in a recent letter I received. Under my rights granted by the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act ( FDCPA ), I am asking your office to provide proper documentation verifying that this debt is valid. This includes the name of the original creditor, the total amount owed, a complete payment history, and proof that I am legally responsible for the account. I am making this request to confirm that the information being reported is accurate and not the result of an error, misunderstanding, or fraudulent activity. Until full validation is provided, I request that all collection efforts and credit reporting related to this account be suspended, as permitted by law.
I received a personal loan from Oportun in Florida. The amount disbursed to me was {$4000.00}. I was charged a mandatory 10 % origination fee ( {$400.00} ), and interest was calculated on the loan amount plus that fee. The contract shows an APR of 27.44 %, but the amount owed before the first payment was {$4500.00}. I believe the APR was not accurately disclosed and that interest was charged on money I did not receive. Additionally, I have repeatedly requested a copy of my loan contract and disclosures. I have sent approximately XXXX emails to Oportun requesting these documents, and they have failed to provide them.
I have been repeatedly called and texted by an entity identifying themselves only as XXXX on behalf of Oportun , Inc. They address the calls ( all robocalls, never a real person ) and texts to XXXX XXXX ( not me ) and indicate he owes a sum of {$2900.00}. They occasionally offer an opportunity to settle by paying XXXX % of the debt. It has been at least XXXX months that they call or text at least XXXX a day.
I refinanced a personal loan with Oportun for approximately {$11000.00}, with an APR of 29.69 % and regular payments of {$190.00} twice per month. The contract includes a payment schedule that clearly outlines how the balance should decrease with each on-time payment. I have made all payments since the refinance. On two occasions, I was more than 6 days late, and I understand that this allows them to charge a {$15.00} late fee which I have no issue with. However, even when I paid only 36 days late ( within the contracts stated 6-day grace period ), my loan balance kept increasing, and Oportun never assessed a late fee. I later learned they are charging extra daily interest for every day a payment is late even during the grace period. This is extremely misleading. The contract never clearly explains that the grace period only protects against late fees not interest. The language is vague and gives the impression that no financial penalty is applied during that time.…
SETTLEMENT AGREEMENT AND UNLAWFUL COLLECTION On XX/XX/year>, I entered into a binding Settlement and Resolution Agreement with XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX ( XXXX ) regarding my Oportun account ( Account No. XXXX ), which fully and finally resolved all disputes related to this account. Under this agreement, XXXX expressly agreed to remove the account and all associated tradelines from all consumer reporting agencies, permanently cease all collection activity and contact, not resell, transfer, or reassign the account, and not pursue any legal action against me in the future. Despite this binding agreement, on XX/XX/year>, I received a collection notice from XXXX XXXX XXXX attempting to collect the same account, now allegedly owned by XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX. This demonstrates a clear breach by XXXX XXXX XXXX : they either transferred or allowed the reassignment of a fully settled and extinguished debt or failed to enforce the settlement terms.…
CFPB Complaint Narrative Credit Bureau Non-Compliance I am submitting this complaint because the credit reporting agency failed to comply with its obligations under the Fair Credit Reporting Act ( FCRA ) after I disputed inaccurate and unverifiable information on my credit report. On XX/XX/year>, I submitted a written dispute and request for reinvestigation pursuant to 15 U.S.C. 1681i regarding the continued reporting of inaccurate and unverifiable accounts, including XXXX XXXX XXXX ( XXXX ), XXXX. and XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX. My dispute was sent in writing and supported by documentation. More than thirty ( 30 ) days have elapsed since my dispute was submitted. In addition, I formally requested the Method of Verification pursuant to 15 U.S.C.…
This complaint concerns an account being reported by Oportun that is inaccurate and unverifiable due to an identity mismatch. The account was opened under a former ITIN, not my Social Security Number, and Oportun has never provided documentation linking this account to my identity. On XX/XX/year>, I sent a written request for account verification. On XX/XX/year>, Oportun responded stating they were not subject to debt validation requirements and did not provide any documentation verifying the account. On XX/XX/year>, I sent a formal dispute under the Fair Credit Reporting Act requesting proof of the account, including the account number, documentation showing the balance reported ( approximately {$4500.00} ) is accurate, and a copy of the original contract or agreement. No documentation was provided. I previously disputed this account with the credit reporting agencies and requested the Method of Verification on XX/XX/year>.…

Oportun sent an email referencing an adverseaction letter but failed to provide the required written adverseaction notice and specific reasons as required by ECOA/Regulation B and the FCRA/Regulation V. I applied for a loan with Oportun on or about XX/XX/year> and XX/XX/year> using last Applicant ID XXXX. I used to have an account with XXXX before their acquisition by oportun. I continue to receive charges for oportun service, and have no way to log in to my account, as the login credentials have changed or expired, and my browser runs a XXXX error when trying to change my password or login. I am certain the company is doing this on purpose so they can continue to charge me for a service I can not benefit from ; I have reached out several times to support and they offer no help getting into my account or any reassurance that these unauthorized charges will stop. I never authorized any kind of subscription or withdrawal service after their acquisition by oportun. I am sick and tired of being charged money for an account I can't even log in to. I don't have money for a lawyer. I barely have money to eat most weeks, let alone have extra change laying around to be gouged by a corporation for the last dollars I have.
I dispute this OPORTUN tradeline because it contains inaccurate and conflicting remarks. 1. Data Error : It incorrectly reports the remark " Purchased by another lender '' twice, which is a clear duplicate entry error. 2. Contradictory & Misleading Information : The combination of " Profit and loss write-off '' and " Purchased by another lender '' is contradictory and misleading. It inaccurately suggests the account is both charged off and still an active obligation with the original creditor, when the 'purchased ' remark confirms the debt has been sold. XXXX. Obsolete Status : This original creditor account is obsolete. The continued reporting of this stale, charged-off account by OPORTUN does not reflect the true, resolved status. Please conduct a reasonable investigation pursuant to the FCRA. The tradeline must be corrected to show a {$0.00} balance with accurate, non-duplicative remarks, or deleted entirely to ensure my credit report is fair and accurate.

I am formally disputing the collection account being reported by OPORTUN/XXXX XXXX, which does not belong to me and appears to be the result of identity theft.
