I am currently in repayment of federal student loans with Mohela. I received notice that my XX/XX/2026 automatic payment of {$3000.00} did not go through and that my account was overdue. I logged in to confirm that information. They said there was no pending payments and that a payment was needed for the month of XXXX. I made the XXXX XXXXXXXX payment on XX/XX/2026, which is what I normally pay for automatic payments each month. Then I get notification that not only did the XXXX XXXX payment I made but also a payment I never authorized for {$2800.00} was also removed from my account. As I said, my normal automatic payment is for XXXX XXXX so I do not know where that amount came from. I called Mohela directly several times. Each time the call ended while I was on hold waiting for answers to my questions. I called and finally was told they XXXX help me cancel XXXX of the XXXX payments. And that if I want a refund, it would take XXXX business days.

I have been applying for the income based repayment program ( IBR ) since XX/XX/year>. The loan is supposed to be in forbearance. At XXXX point the loan ( under XXXX 's management ) fell out of forbearance, they didn't tell me, didn't give me an option to put it back into forbearance and they still qualified me under the XXXX program for a $ XXXX payment due to my low-income status. Now they are sending me a monthly statement for a " late fee '' of {$320.00}. I can not pay this late fee, if I did, the amount would be attributed to the loan balance. The late fee must be paid at the end of the loan payment process. I have asked them to waive it. They will not. Now they are harassing me every month with this " late fee '' statement. I respectfully request that the late fee be dismissed and the monthly statements cease. How can you help me?

I requested an official student loan payoff quote from MOHELA in XX/XX/XXXX and relied upon that quote to pay my remaining federal student loan balance in full. In late XX/XX/XXXX, I remitted approximately {$75000.00} to satisfy all outstanding principal and accrued interest reflected in the payoff quote. The payment successfully cleared my financial institution. Despite paying the full payoff amount, MOHELA has continued to display a substantial outstanding balance on my account. The current online balance remains approximately {$26000.00}, even though I was informed by multiple advanced customer support representatives that my account should have been paid in full and that the remaining balance is the result of an internal accounting or ledger issue. When reviewing my account, MOHELA 's website shows multiple loan groups with large negative balances ( credits ) and multiple loan groups with positive balances.

MOHELA is my current student loan service provider. I had XXXX loans on file with them : a consolidated Direct Subsidized federal student loan and a consolidated Direct Unsubsidized federal student loan. I paid off my consolidated Direct Unsubsidized federal student loan. I am currently paying on my consolidated Direct Subsidized student loan. When making payments on my current subsidized loan, MOHELA is splitting my payments between both loans even though the Unsubsidized loan is paid off. Its results in less payment being made to the loan I am still paying on and the other amount is being stored as credit and not being applied to my unpaid loan. MOHELA had also charged me over {$400.00} for interest on my loans when I was in the SAVE plan and there was a federal mandate that stopped principal and interest charges as well as interest accrual. I have not defaulted on my loans and my interest was paid up at the time.

I have been trying to setup auto pay to receive a .25 % interest rate on my loans with Mohela since XX/XX/2026. I first submitted an electronic application, which is supposed to process within two billing cycles. After two billing cycles had passed, I called and was told the application was stuck in queue, and I would have to submit a paper application. I submitted the paper application on XX/XX/2026. It has been two billing cycles and I still haven't been enrolled in auto pay nor have I received the .25 % interest rate deduction on my loans. Upon contacting Mohela on several occasions via email, I only received generic responses that did not answer my questions. It seems that Mohela is deliberately delaying auto pay applications to avoid reducing interest rates on loans.

RE : Missing Loan History Dear CFPB, I am writing to express my serious concern about the missing loan history on my account. I recently accessed my Moehla account and discovered that my payment history and status for my loans have not been reported accurately. Specifically, XXXX is missing when I had periods of payment, deferment, and or forbearance. The missing periods are keeping me from qualifying for Public Service Loan Forgiveness due to this error that has not been corrected by Moehla or previous servicer. I have already contacted the customer service department on many occasions to report this issue but was given no resolution. Therefore, I am formally requesting that you investigate this matter and take immediate action to correct the missing loan history on my account through Moehla. I am filing a complaint regarding the servicing of my federal student loans and the circumstances surrounding the school I attended. I enrolled in a paralegal program based on representations that the school was reputable, that the program would prepare me for employment in the legal field, and that career services would assist graduates in obtaining jobs after completion. I was also led to believe that the education would provide meaningful career opportunities and value after graduation. After completing the program, I was unable to obtain employment in the paralegal field, and I did not receive the level of job placement assistance that was represented to me during enrollment. Additionally, the school later ceased operating in its original form/closed or merged, which further affected the value and credibility of the education I received.

Since early XX/XX/XXXX, I have had several phone calls with Mohela customer service about an unexplained interest rate increase in one of my student loans. After I graduated XX/XX/XXXX from XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX XXXX consolidated a portion of my loans, which resulted in a 4.375 % interest subsidized consolidated loan. I intended to consolidate also the loans I took out during vet school, but was unable because the loan servicer did not have me as having left student status. Thus, I filed again to consolidate my loans. That resulted in a second consolidated loan, which was instead unsubsidized with a weighted average interest rate of 5.5 %. The total amount owed between these two loans was around {$110000.00}. In late XXXX or early XX/XX/XXXX, I logged onto Mohela to make my weekly payment of {$500.00} as part of my repayment strategy, and saw that the interest rate for my subsidized loan suddenly increased to 5.5 % as well.

My federal student loans were in an approved forbearance status. When the forbearance period ended, MOHELA failed to notify me in any way no letter, no email, no phone call, and no other communication. I received zero notice that payments were resuming and was given no opportunity to make payments or enroll in an income-driven repayment plan before delinquency was reported. I had no knowledge that my account was delinquent until I applied for a mortgage pre-approval for a home purchase. The lender informed me during that process that my credit report showed over 290 days of student loan late payments, which disqualified me from obtaining the loan. That mortgage application was the first time I became aware of any delinquency. MOHELA never contacted me before, during, or after the forbearance ended. The 290+ days of delinquency reported to all three credit bureaus are entirely the result of MOHELA 's failure to communicate with me, not willful non-payment.
