I am submitting a complaint regarding the handling of an in-school deferment/in-school status request for a Sallie Mae student loan that I co-signed for. My brother began school on XX/XX/year>. Normally, his enrollment status should have automatically updated through the school reporting process, and he believed his loans were already in deferment. However, after reviewing the account myself, I discovered the loan had not been placed into in-school status and continued showing as due/delinquent. As a result, I submitted the required in-school status documentation to Sallie Mae XXXX XX/XX/year>. We were informed the processing turnaround time would be approximately XXXX business days. Despite submitting the documentation, I continued receiving repeated collection/payment calls regarding the account being delinquent. Because the status had still not updated, I followed up with Sallie Mae through chat support.

Sallie Mae has been advising me that I do not have many options. I have spoken to multiple representatives that have advised different options only to be told those options are not possible. I also have a recurring payment issue where the company kept charging me a " late fee '' after I accidentally paid twice. It is listed in the account as an " returned check charge '', this is all occurring while the account is on autopay. I asked for a promissory note to which I was advised to many different teams and could not be supplied the document. They also advised no repayment options based on income and when I was told the program I was currently apart of was income based, it was brought to light the program was a " interest based program ''. It was advised to me that a repayment option is not available until after the account is past due. These then created recurring late fees after the program was applied to the account with autopay and the account in good standing.

My student loans came due a few years ago - I called and chatted with them multiple times to set up a payment plan. At the time I was not working due to a injury so my income was limited and they told me I could not afford a payment through the payment plan and they could not offer me a payment plan when the whole reason for a payment plan is because you can not afford the original payment but to them because I also had bills to pay for what income was coming in I couldnt afford to do their payment plan based on income with the loans I had- this occurred for loans my mother was a co-signer on. She was on numerous of these calls due to being the co-signer and having to agree for the payment plan. She is now being sued for these loans that we were not allowed to have a payment plan on.

I am submitting this complaint regarding inaccurate credit reporting by Sallie Mae related to a student loan account affected by a Servicemembers Civil Relief Act ( SCRA ) misapplication. From XX/XX/XXXX through XX/XX/XXXX, my account accrued interest at approximately 10.25 %, despite being eligible for the SCRA interest rate cap of 5 %. Sallie Mae has since confirmed this error and applied the SCRA benefit retroactively, including a credit adjustment of approximately {$510.00}. During this period, I made consistent monthly payments toward interest. Based on the corrected SCRA rate, the appropriate monthly interest obligation was significantly lower than what was charged. As a result, my payments were consistent with, and in many cases exceeded, the correct obligation. Despite this correction, Sallie Mae reported my account as 60 days past due on XX/XX/XXXX. These delinquencies were based on an inflated balance resulting from the incorrect interest calculation.
